Located in Dawson City in the wilds of the Yukon Territory, Diamond Tooth Gerties is a not-for-profit gambling hall from which all profits go into local restoration projects. The casino takes its name from Gertie Lovejoy from the Klondike gold rush, who wedged a diamond between her front teeth in order to distinguish herself from the other Klondike kings and queens. The table games on offer are blackjack, roulette, money wheel and Red Dog, a less common game which uses three cards a time and a wager is placed on the resultant combination.

Live poker games and tournaments are held on a nightly basis, mostly Texas hold ‘em but Omaha is also available. At the weekend tournament s close at 2.30 and there are no limit tournaments every Tuesday with s closing at 7.30pm. All tournaments are $75 buy-in with a re-buy of $25 and extra $10 entrance fee and overall Gerties is a solid choice for poker fans.

For a small town Dawson City has a lot on offer from fish and chips at Sourdough Joe’s to Chinese at Gold Village Chinese Restaurant. There’s no in house restaurant in the casino itself but lots in the surrounding area.

The gold rush-themed Keno lounge is an old-fashioned bar with full drinks menu and terrace with full keno facilities. If you fancy getting out for a break from the casino fun then Bombay Peggy’s has live music at weekends and used to be a brothel! Now it’s a social hub with outdoor patio and drink specials.

You can’t stay at Gerties unfortunately but there are plenty of options in the area including the previously mentioned Bombay Peggy’s Inn, the Aurora Inn and at the cheaper end of the spectrum Dawson City Bunkhouse and White Ram Manor.
